Testimonials

While we can tell you why we think St. Mary’s Catholic School is the best choice for your child’s education, it seems like hearing from our students about why they love St. Mary’s might be better! Each year, our students have the opportunity to share why they love St. Mary’s Catholic School during Catholic Schools Week – below are some of our students’ thoughts. We invite you to hear why St. Mary’s is the best fit for our students!

Grace Amptmann – 3rd Grade

My name is Grace Amptmann and I am in the Third Grade.

I think if I didn’t go to a Catholic School to learn about God I would have felt like something was missing in my life. I also think it’s important to learn about the person who created us, Jesus! Think about it… Jesus sacrificed his life for us to live. A Catholic Education is also important because you get to learn about the creator of heaven and Earth! May teachers at St. Mary’s help me learn about the Lord. This is what Catholic Education means to me and I feel blessed to be at St. Mary’s school in Sycamore!

Drew Donahoe – 8th Grade

Hello, My name is Drew Donahoe, and I am a student of St. Mary’s School. I love this school and all that it offers. One of the main things in a Catholic School is obviously learning about how Religion is such an important thing. When I was in preschool and Kindergarten, I remember learning about Jesus, about how to make God happy. Then in First and Second Grade, our teachers talked about the Holy Trinity and lots about the Church to help us get ready for our First Holy Communion.. In Third and Fourth Grade, I remember our visits from our Priest at the time, Father Timar. He would read us parables and told us how to make God happy. Fifth and Sixth Grade was especially important for my faith. That was when our class started to go to Adoration. We got to spend time alone with Jesus and just pray. I began to really understand the importance of going to church every Sunday. During those grades, I also did my Saint reports where I discovered a lot about their lives and what they did to be so holy. In Seventh and now Eighth Grade, I am learning even more about the rules and way to best live our faith. This year I am participating in two service projects to help the school and community. Throughout these years at St. Mary’s, I have learned about my faith and definitely become a better person.

Will Donahoe – 6th Grade

St. Mary’s is a special school. One of my favorite things about 6th grade is going to Mass with the Kindergartners. Sometimes I get to sit next to my brother, but even if I don’t, I still like to help them out and show them what to do during church. We also do special projects with them during the holidays. We helped them make an Advent chain before Christmas. Our class also went to read them Halloween books. I really like spending time with these younger students.

Reese Harper – 2nd Grade

I started at St. Mary’s for Preschool and Kindergarten. Then I went to North Grove for 1st grade and half of 2nd grade. Now I am here at St. Mary’s. I love St. Mary’s because when you walk into school you feel welcome by God’s teachers and classmates. The teachers are forgiving when you make mistakes. My classmates are helpful and kind. I like the fact that you get more attention so you can learn more because the classes are smaller.

Alexander Kinn – 4th Grade

Hello. My name is Alexander Kinn and I am in the 4th grade class at St. Mary School, with my twin brother Matthew. I have loved this school since my first day here. I love my Principal, Mrs. Benson and Father Paul for welcoming me to school and Church! BASE is an after school program with Mr. Ed. It is very fun! We have library and Spanish, plus, we get an extra recess on Fridays after Mass. All of my friends love this school, too. Every teacher I’ve had so far has been great! I love St. Mary’s School. May God continue to Bless this Parish & School.

Brooklynn Kinn – 7th Grade

Good Evening. My name is Brooklynn Kinn, I am in the 7th grade and I love St. Mary Catholic School. This school has been in my life for many years and is like a second home with great friends and amazing teachers. You couldn’t ask for a better place to learn. I am very fortunate to have this opportunity and privilege to be here. The teachers are always making sure you are doing your best. And there are so many sports and clubs to join, for instance I am the President for Builder’s Club, I belong to Spanish Club and I have chosen to play volleyball and basketball this year with the St. Mary Stars. There are many more clubs and sports to choose from. One of my favorite parts about school is that we go to Church every Friday and Father Paul never lets us down, by giving us an entertaining homily for all ages. On top of that we are blessed to have our beautiful, amazing, holy Principal, Mrs. Benson; who cares for everyone on Earth. Before I go, I would like to thank this parish for all that you do; without you St. Mary’s School wouldn’t be here. Without this school I would not get to have and share the love, joy and faith that it brings to me and my family.

Thank you and God Bless you.

Luke Malecki – 7th Grade

My name is Luke Maleki. I‘m in 7th grade and I have gone to St. Mary’s School since Kindergarten. I feel very blessed that during this time of my life, I am in school with a group of students who have been my friends since I was little. We watch out for each other, we pray together and we respectfully share our thoughts with each other, even when we disagree.

Our teachers at St. Mary’s get to know us so well and help prepare us for high school and for life. I love that they know so much about us and our strengths and what we need to work on, and push us to be our best. I also love the community feeling and know that I not only have my parents but also many other great families who care about me.

I am thankful that my parents sent me to St. Mary’s. I know I will practice what I have learned here – to put God First, to love one another, to make good choices, and to use the brain God gave me.

Thank you.
